One of the worst types of vehicle crashes is that of a wrong-way accident, especially along the highway. This is what happened recently when two people were killed in a crash after their vehicle was stuck by a wrong-way driver. Florida authorities indicate that the accident occurred near Crystal River on a recent Monday night.
Upon a preliminary investigation, authorities determined that the accident occurred when the driver of a Nissan SUV was traveling southbound in the northbound lane of the highway. She eventually crashed head-on into a Chevy, which was being operated by a 74-year-old woman. The driver of the Chevy died at the scene while her 75-year-old passenger was transported to the hospital.
Sadly, the passenger later died at Seven Rivers Hospital. The driver of the Nissan suffered critical injuries and was flown to another hospital. Authorities are continuing an investigation into why the driver was traveling on the wrong side of the highway and if she may have been under the influence. It’s not known if authorities are expected to file charges against the wrong-way driver.
A horrific car crash can be traumatizing for most families, especially when they learn that their loved one was killed. Wrong-way crashes and other forms of negligence cause a number of these tragedies. Although nothing will bring the victims back, the families of the deceased could have legal recourse to file wrongful death claims against the driver to recoup damages such as funeral expenses and emotional suffering. If the driver was charged, that could be used as evidence to prove their claims in a Florida civil courtroom.
