How many times have you passed another driver only to notice that he’s not even looking at the road, but appears to be looking at his cell phone? It’s a scary thing.
Texting takes your eyes off the road for an average of four-point-six seconds. That’s like driving the length of a football field, blindfolded!
Texting is the most dangerous of all types of distracted driving, but talking on your cell phone is also dangerous. Bottom line: distracted driving kills, and it includes anything that takes your mind, eyes or focus off of the task of driving.
There are three main types of distracted driving: Manual – taking your hands off the wheel; Visual – taking your eyes off the road; and Cognitive – not paying attention to your driving. All three can result in deadly consequences.
